Sicily is one of the most diverse and exciting islands of the Medeteranian. With civilization dating back to before Roman influence, you and your students or participants will have plenty to explore and discover. Each day provides exciting opportunities for educational and cultural experiences. Fully customizable, this trip to Sicily can include trips to local islands and concentrations in certain areas of the main island. Let your imagination run wild with possibilites as you plan for your tour of Sicily.
Day 1: Depart on Alitalia at 6.40 p.m. from the Boston to Palermo via Milan
Day 2: Arrival in Palermo airport 12.25. After lunch short drive to Segesta for visit of the imposing Temple and an optional visit the Theater with scenic view. Short drive to Erice – a charming medieval hilltown. Dinner and overnight in Erice.
Day 3: Visit Marsala’s unique museum and a Marsala winery – Stop over in Selinunta with its many temples and monuments by the sea – Agrigento (dinner – overnight hotel Foresteria Baglia della Luna or similar).
Day 4: Visit the spectacular Valley of the Temples combined with visit of the archaeological museum in Agrigento (dinner – overnight in the hotel Foresteria Baglia della Luna – overlooking the Valley).
Day 5: Agrigento. Visit to the home of the famous dramatist Pirandello and visit on foot to sites and shops in downtown Agrigento (Overnight in the hotel Foresteria Baglia della Luna).
Day 6: Agrigento. Drive from Agrigento to Piazza Armerino (stopover to visit Palace of a wealthy suppler of wild animals from Africa to the Collosseum in Ancient Rome and other arenas. Fascinating mosaics). Dinner and overnight at Grand Hotel Siracusa or similar.
Day 7: Siracuse with visit to the prison/fortifications – theater – museum. Grand Hotel Siracusa for dinner and overnight.
Day 8:. Siracuse – Drive to Taormina for theater visit. Dinner/ overnight in Naxos nearby at Hotel Hellenia or similar.
Day 9: Visit to Taormina and surroundings and for those who wish an optional trip to visit the very much alive volcano Etna. Dinner and overnight in Taormina/Naxos at Hotel Hellenia or similar.
Day 10: Taormina – Messina – Reggio di Calabria (visit) – Milazzo (hydrofoil to Lipari island). Dinner and overnight in Meligounis Hotel, a converted Villa.
Day 11: Lipari island (optional tour of the island by local bus). Dinner/overnight in Cefalu/Campofelice at Hotel Garden Beach or similar.
Day 12: Cefalu. Visit Cefalu Cathedral – visit Monreale Cathedral and Monastery – Palermo Cathedral and tour of the city. Farewell dinner. Overnight Cefalu/Campofelice at Hotel Gerden Beach.
Day 13: Cefalu/Campofelice – Palermo Airport for departure by air with Alitalia to the US. Depart at 11.05am with arrival in Boston at 04.40pm via Milan.
11 Overnights: Erice:1, Agrigento:3, Siracusa:2, Taormina/Naxos:2, Lipari Island:1, Cefalu/Campofelice:2.
